Bootstrap: Algebra and Computer Programming

In this unit, students will learn how computer programming relates to mathematics, and they will write their own code in order to create a simple video game.

Big Mathematical Ideas:
  • Learn algebraic and geometric concepts through computer programming
  • Apply mathematical concepts and rigorous programming principles to create a simple video game
  • Design what each character looks like, and use algebraic concepts to detect collisions, handle keystrokes, and determine how they move and interact
  • Discover programming contracts that create various shapes and utilize those to create larger, more custom images
  • Use computer code to manipulate images (flip, rotate, scale, etc.)
